Fifty years a journalist from Siberia, fled Russia in fear of
persecution by the authorities for his critical articles in newspapers,
has received permission to remain in Canada.
A member of the Canadian Minister of Citizenship and Immigration came
to the conclusion that if deported to Russia from Alaas likely to be
persecuted.
"I was in tears," - said Alaas when he learned of the decision on
Thursday. - "Immediately phoned his wife. She was happy and also in
tears. "
