142 years ago, four British provinces in North America were united in a
confederation. In 1879, the festival has name - Dominion Day, and in
1982 by Parliament it was renamed the Day of Canada.
Traditionally on the eve of the Governor-General appeals to the public
with a message.
This year, Michaelle Jean, a spokesman for Queen Elizabeth II,
emphasized the "unusually large contribution of young Canadians in the
prosperity of the country."
Celebrations on the occasion of the Canadian tradition held on
Parliament Hill, at the foot of the 100-meter tower in the world. About
the tradition they begin with a solemn change of guard of honor.
